I need sleep. Last night was an awful night of sleep. I think I was
worried that I'd oversleep again and I didn't want to miss the
conference call this morning so I kept waking up every hour. Literally
every hour. I went to bed at midnight and I must say that it was great.
I fell asleep immediately and that never happens to me. However at
12:55 a.m. I woke up and for some reason thought I'd slept all night
because I jumped out of bed and practically ran out of the room. I was
at the door when I realized how dark it was. I glanced at the clock and
had to laugh at myself for getting so flustered. I climbed back into
bed and fell asleep again fairly quickly. At 1:48 though, I woke up
again. This time I just glanced at the clock and rolled over to ignore
it. However that continued every hour through the night. I was even
awake when Ron got home around 4:30-ish. It was not a restful night.

The conference call this morning was pointless in a way and yet helpful
at the same time. It wasn't exactly what we'd expected. We thought for
sure that it was going to announce the transition plan and time frames.
However, it was just to say that our supervisor would be starting
on writing the transition plans at the end of this month. After he
writes them up, the plans then have to be approved by HR and many other
departments all the way up through the corporate office. It isn't a
quick process from the sounds of things. So that's good. We did learn
that being a transition instead of them just closing the department
flat, we get a bunch of benefits out of it. We'll get preference in job
openings and also get offered voluntary and/or involuntary severance if
we decide to leave. Also, if by the time the department closes we do
not have jobs, they will help write our resumes plus they do outsourcing
to help find us jobs with other companies. All in all it sounds like a
good deal... Well good as far as if it has to happen there are worse
ways to do it. I'm not worried about anything. We'll learn more as our
supervisor works on the plans. I think we've got a good year or more
ahead of us... Give or take.

So it's no big deal really. We all knew that eventually things were
going to close so it was a matter of when. Now that we know it is
coming soonish, it is actually better than all the wondering about when
it might be and how much notice we'll get.

Last night I finished reading The Nymphos of Rocky Flats and
posted my review to the First Look site. I actually quite enjoyed the
book, although there were a few bits that I felt were rushed over.
After finishing that, I started reading The Historian. So far it
doesn't impress me. It's not bad but it's not all that great either.

The People's Choice Awards last night were pretty good. Nothing really
surprising. There were quite a few funny moments and some way less than
funny moments. I'm glad I watched it.

There was a dead bear on the side of the road this morning. It backed
up traffic on Route 287 for miles! I couldn't believe how backed up
traffic was this morning. Then once we passed the bear's body, the
traffic suddenly and miraculously dispersed and moved along as if no
problem existed at all. That was very annoying!

Need more Zzz's.

It's another one of those days!

I overslept big time this morning. I'm not talking by five or ten
minutes here... I'm talking almost TWO hours! Haha. Thankfully I'm
usually up earlier than I need to be and usually get to work 30 minutes
early. Yet still it wasn't enough to make it to work on time. I would
have almost made it if I hadn't gotten stuck behind a big oil truck
going 10-15 miles under the speed limit all the way down Macopin Rd.
Grr. I still made it before 9 a.m. but I am supposed to be here at
8:45. Ah well. I don't feel too bad with all the many, many days that
I'm here at 8:15.

I can't figure out why I overslept. I don't recall hearing my alarm but
I shouldn't have been so tired to sleep through it. I went to bed at a
reasonable hour. Who knows. Guess my body just needed the extra
sleep. I just wish it would warn me next time.

We get free bagels and coffee again today... But this time it is for the
entire building. The Activities council provided them for all. Yum. I
actually get two bagels because Sue didn't want hers so so grabbed one
for me. Yay. And we still have extra bagels here in the department
from yesterday. (I never did eat one yesterday.)

Tonight Ron is closing and for once I'm glad of it. The People's Choice
Awards are on (hosted by Craig Ferguson, YAY!) and Ron hates award shows
of all types. Usually we compromise if he's home and I'll watch half of
an award show if I feel like watching it at all. But tonight I want to
see all of the awards so it is good that he's closing so I won't be
annoyed. Hehe

I miss my Dunkin Donuts coffee this morning. Thank heavens for the free
coffee here, but it isn't the same as Dunks. It's not bad but it's not
Dunks. Ah well, 'tis better than nothing.
